Strategy, policy, digital, events, and fundraising for advocacy organizations, political media operations, and companies that need to move an agenda in Washington.
Five things, done together or on their own. Retainer or project. In the first 30 days you go from ideas to implementation.
I help organizations sharpen what they say to their audience and to their donors, build a fundraising plan that fits the message, and run events that move both. Fractional executive or standing advisor, depending on what the organization needs.
Thirteen bills signed into law and federal legislation introduced in both the House and Senate. I work on the design of the policy and on the harder part: getting it into the hands of the right lawmakers and through the process.
Personal and organizational accounts built from a standing start into large, engaged followings. Growth and engagement strategy, and the content that reaches the audience you actually want.
Conferences, summits, lawmaker briefings, fundraisers, private dinners, happy hours. Speaker recruitment and the promotion that drives attendance, for private companies, 501(c)(3)s, and 501(c)(4)s.
Small-dollar networks, monthly supporters, corporate partners, and major individual donors, from five dollars a month to seven-figure checks. The program, the pitch, and the pipeline.
Turning complex policy into campaigns that win with lawmakers and the public.
Dennis Porter is a Democratic strategist and technology policy leader with experience building national advocacy organizations, developing legislative campaigns, and translating emerging technologies into actionable public policy.
Porter co-founded and led Satoshi Action, where he built a national state and federal policy operation focused on technology, energy, digital infrastructure, and economic competitiveness. Under his leadership, the organization helped enact 13 model policies across 11 states and worked directly with lawmakers across the political spectrum to develop and advance legislation.
He has also worked on federal technology and industrial policy, helping craft legislation introduced in both the U.S. House and Senate. That work has spanned domestic technology manufacturing, critical infrastructure, energy systems, consumer rights, and emerging financial technologies.
Alongside the political work, Porter helped build an academic research program that has produced 15 papers on technology, energy, economics, and public policy. Several have been published in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Cleaner Production.
Porter has extensive experience building coalitions, developing political messaging, working directly with elected officials and their staffs, and turning complex policy issues into campaigns that succeed with lawmakers and the public. His work has been covered by The New York Times, Bloomberg, POLITICO, Forbes, AP, CBS, The Washington Post, and Axios.
Today his work focuses on Democratic strategy and the political challenges created by rapid technological change: artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, energy, economic concentration, innovation, and American competitiveness.
I'll tell you if I can help, and what it would take.
